From executives complaining that their teams don't contribute ideas to employees giving up because their input isn't valued--company culture is the culprit. Courageous Cultures provides a road map to build a high-performance, high-engagement culture around sharing ideas, solving problems, and rewarding contributions from all levels. Many leaders are convinced they have an open environment that encourages employees to speak up and are shocked when they learn that employees are holding back. Employees have ideas and want to be heard. Leadership wants to hear them. Too often, however, employees and leaders both feel that no one cares about making things better. The disconnect typically only widens over time, with both sides becoming more firmly entrenched in their viewpoints. Becoming a courageous culture means building teams of microinnovators, problem solvers, and customer advocates working together. In our world of rapid change, a courageous culture is your competitive advantage. It ensures that your company is "sticky" for both customers and employees. In Courageous Cultures, you'll learn practical tools that help you: Learn the difference between microinnovators, problem solvers, and customer advocates and how they work together. See how the latest research conducted by the authors confirms why organizations struggle when it comes to creating strong cultures where employees are encouraged to contribute their best thinking. Learn proven models and tools that leaders can apply throughout all levels of the organization, to reengage and motivate employees. Understand best practices from companies around the world and learn how to apply these strategies and techniques in your own organization. This book provides you with the practical tools to uncover, leverage, and scale the best ideas from every level of your organization.

A must-have resource for building collaboration and trust when the wrong word or phrase can set someone off. In many workplaces today, workplace conflict is an escalating issue.  The shift to remote work and hybrid teams has left many people longing for deeper human connection. On top of this, add a younger generation clamoring for more feedback and impatient for change, steady advances in technology that can feel threatening to job security, or people reexamining priorities and quietly quitting.  Take the increase in anxiety, stress, and depression, mix in the loss of human relationships, and you get less tolerance and understanding leading, ultimately, to more unresolved workplace conflict.  Powerful Phrases for Dealing with Workplace Conflict is an essential resource for all employees (and their managers) who are looking for help on how to navigate frequent workplace conflicts, including with their boss and other difficult people, so they can rebuild trust, collaboration, and ultimately enjoy more influence at work.   Leadership and workplace culture experts Karin Hurt and David Dye share practical and easy-to-follow tactics such as: Over 50 actual phrases you can use to deescalate common workplace conflict situations and build trust. Sample dialogs to demonstrate how phrasing improves interactions. Critical communication tools to ensure workplace issues are addressed before they fester and become more difficult to manage. Findings and real-world cases from a workplace conflict survey conducted by the authors.

The TRILOBITE Micro-Survival Kit - The Worlds BEST 5-Ounce Survival Kit (Paperback): David Dye The TRILOBITE Micro-Survival Kit - The Worlds BEST 5-Ounce Survival Kit (Paperback)

R158 Discovery Miles 1 580 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The BEST micro-survival kit in the world Why? * Portable * Easy to carry on your person, on a pack, and even hanging off your computer tote * 26 items that have been proven effective in survival situations. * You can put it together yourself or order one already made * Various ways to carry it Having been an outdoorsman all of my life, traipsing around the Alpine lakes of the Bitterroot-Selway Wilderness in western Montana & northern Idaho, to the high mountain deserts of southern Utah, I have found that prior preparation is vital. I started out by carrying a 'Survival Kit, ' which usually weighed more than five pounds, and was quite prohibitive and unwieldy. It wasn't long before I stopped taking a survival kit. Thankfully, one was not needed. But being unprepared for a crisis was the natural result. It wasn't until about 2010, that I was introduced to a fad - paracord bracelets. Not being into fads myself, I bought one only for the thought of having 8' of paracord with me all the time. I liked the idea. Then I began to wonder if I could put a few additional items into the bracelet, woven in, thus making it even more beneficial to me in my traipsing in the outdoors. So, bit by bit, piece by piece, I began to add items that I considered to be of most importance in a survival situation. Having worked in a wilderness survival program, I knew what I could use, what was lightweight, & what was needed to sustain life. Thus, the Trilobite was born (names this way due to it's shape). This booklet contains instructions, along with a story, on what to put into a Trilobite, & how to go about constructing one. I wish you the best in your fabulous outdoor adventures. Hopefully this will put you more at peace as you go outdoors. Practice, and be prepared for the unknown. David Dye [email protected]

War Paths, Peace Paths - An Archaeology of Cooperation and Conflict in Native Eastern North America (Paperback): David Dye War Paths, Peace Paths - An Archaeology of Cooperation and Conflict in Native Eastern North America (Paperback)
David Dye
R1,558 Discovery Miles 15 580 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Archaeologists, ethnohistorians, osteologists, and cultural anthropologists have only recently begun to address seriously the issue of Native American war and peace in the eastern United States. New methods for identifying prehistoric cooperation and conflict in the archaeological record are now helping to advance our knowledge of their existence and importance. Focusing on four major issues in prehistoric warfare studies settlement patterns, skeletal trauma, weaponry, and iconography David H. Dye presents a new interpretation of ancient war and peace east of the Mississippi. He considers evidence for raiding and more organized forms of warfare, accounts of native warfare witnessed by sixteenth-century Europeans, and the various causes of warfare, such as revenge, competition for resources, and ideology. War Paths, Peace Paths offers an innovative analysis of cooperation and conflict in the prehistoric eastern United States.

Cave Archaeology of the Eastern Woodlands - Papers in Honor of Patty Jo Watson (Hardcover): David Dye Cave Archaeology of the Eastern Woodlands - Papers in Honor of Patty Jo Watson (Hardcover)

Patty Jo Watson's prolific career began in the early 1950s as an energetic graduate student at the University of Chicago and culminated with her induction into the National Academy of Sciences and subsequent retirement from Washington University in 2003. During that time her groundbreaking research impacted multiple fields within the discipline of archaeology, but her astonishing research into the underground caves of the eastern United States recognizes her as one of the world's leading experts on cave archaeology. In honor of Dr. Watson and her monumental achievements in the field, twenty-two established scholars present in this volume new and insightful research into prehistoric and historic use of southeastern dark zones. Cave Archaeology of the Eastern Woodlands, edited by David H. Dye, explores how prehistoric and historic peoples utilized caves as a means to further their economic growth and represent cultural values within their societies. The essays range in topics from early gypsum mining to rare American Indian cave art, from historic saltpeter extraction to current archaeobotanical and paleofecal research. Dye and the contributors contend that studies of deep zone caves reveal multiple insights into the values, beliefs, and cultural lifeways of ancient and historic peoples. In addition to presenting new research in the field, contributors also place particular emphasis on Dr. Watson's influential cave research and how it has molded their own work. The essays convey a sense of wonder at the unique and sometimes harrowing world of caves, and readers will get a sense of why Native Americans regarded the Underworld or Beneathworld as a supernatural realm to be tread upon with great respect and caution. This volume of uniformly excellent essays will no doubt be a lantern that sheds light onto the importance of studying and understanding the all too secret world of underground caves. David H. Dye is professor of archaeology in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Memphis and a former student of Patty Jo Watson's. He is author of Cycles of Violence: An Archaeology of Peace and War in Native Eastern North American, coeditor, with Richard J. Chacon, of The Taking and Displaying of Human Body Parts as Trophies by Amerindians, and, with Cheryl Anne Cox, of Towns and Temples Along the Mississippi.
